Sokhna Port Container Terminal is constantly expanding its stacking areas. The stacking areas consist of concrete pavers blocks, drainage systems and utilities such as high lighting masts. ‘Area A’ project was executed in 2011/2013 and consists of over 80 hectares of container terminal area, inclusive of new sanitary facilities, extension of medium voltage networks and 368 new reefer connections.
EZZ Rolling Mills Co (ERM) is operating a flat-steel factory in the Suez Special Economic Zone near Sokhna Port (GSDC area). ERM intends to expand the factory with a DRI plant which will produce DRI from imported iron oxide pellets. Sokhna Port will be used to import the raw materials, therefore the development of an iron-oxide pellets import terminal is required.
Sonker Oil Terminal Al Sokhna (SOTCO) is planning to advance with the development of the Sokhna Port Basin Three Liquid Terminal. The liquid bulk terminal is planned adjacent to and surrounding the existing ammonia tanks. A master plan of the terminal, incorporating the ammonia tanks, has already been drafted. Now three gasoil tanks and three LPG tanks will be developed by SOTCO (Phase A of the tankfarm). This development will be engineered and constructed.
In 1999 Sokhna Port Development Company (SPDC) and the Government of Egypt signed a BOT concession agreement for a period of 25 years for the design, construction and operation of the cargo terminals around the first basin of El Sokhna. El Sokhna Port was constructed as a new deep-sea port development, 45 km south of Suez on the Red Sea.
The project comprises the procurement of 2 super-post-Panamax sized ship-to-shore container gantry cranes (STS-cranes) and 3 Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes (RTG’s) for Sokhna Port, Egypt.
